International Legal Issues Related to the Status of the State of Israel Abstract The emergence and continued existence of the State of Israel, which is completely surrounded by Arab neighbors, may be one of the main causes of the current conflict that began in this part of the region more than seventy years ago. At the same time, the creation of the State of Israel constitutes a certain exception to international law because it was linked to a non-legally binding resolution of a body of an international organization of a universal nature, in particular to the UN General Assembly Resolution 181 (II) of 1947. This resolution foresaw the establishment of both a Jewish and an Arab state in part of the territory of the former Ottoman Empire, which was then administered by Great Britain as a mandate territory. While the state of Israel declared its independence on 14 May 1948, the Arab people of the mandate rejected this resolution, and their right to self-determination was not pursued until many decades later. Impacts of Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip on the development of Israeli-Palestinian relations

The aim of the thesis is to analyse the impact of the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in 2005. This work is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. The first part deals with selected issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by 2005, such as historical landmarks, especially the first Israeli-Arab war and the Six Day War, the international legal status of Gaza, on which a consensus did not exist and policy of the Jewish settlements. The practical part is specifically dedicated to the process of withdrawal and its impact on Israeli-Palestinian relations, especially on the economic situation and the lives of Palestinians in Gaza. Important attention is paid to the current situation of bilateral relations and the future of the Gaza Strip. The work is supplemented by pictorial documentation, selected UN resolutions and statistical data.
Israeli Settlements on Occupied Territories. A Problem of Israeli Domestic and International Politics

This bachelor thesis is focusing on the problem of Israeli settlements built on the occupied Palestinian territory. The main question is to which extend do these Israeli settlements support the internal and external integrity of the State of Israel The focus of this work is in the analysis of the role of the settlements. This is done both of historical point of view also in respect to Zionism, and considering the questions related to typology of the settlements, mechanism of getting the land and from the point of view of the internal political relationships including the international law. As well as taking into account the motivation of the settlers. The analysis confirmed, that the security and geopolitical situation of the State of Israel is so complex, that there is no simple and noncontroversial solution. Nevertheless, it is obvious the existence of the settlements is necessary for Israeli internal security despite all the negatives.
The Role of Settlements in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the influence of the settlements on the peace process. It views the settlements as one of the problematic points of the permanent status. It also tries to outline the possibilities of future development of this problem regarding present situation. First part of the thesis presents historic moments that are important for this issue. The second part offers different views of the structure of settlements in the West Bank. The third part deals with the legal dimension of settlements, local administration, and the land-seizure methods. The fourth part is about political representation of the settlers, and also about anti-settler movements. The last part defines settlements as an obstacle in the peace process, and deals with perspectives of future disengagement possibilities.
